Description
COS offers three levels of certificates and degrees in the field of agricultural technology: a Skill Certificate in Agriculture Power Equipment Technician, a Certificate of Achievement in Agriculture Technology and an Associate of Science in Agriculture Technology.
Students completing the Skill Certificate in Agriculture Power Equipment Technician will acquire a basic level training for an agriculture power equipment technician, including diagnostics, repair and service of agriculture and industrial equipment. Students must complete 15 credits. Click here for more information on course requirements. Once you complete this pathway, you will be prepared for employment in the following fields: power equipment technician, service technician, small engine technician, and on-farm agriculture repair and operation.
The Certificate of Achievement in Agriculture Technology prepares students for entry-level employment in the field of Agriculture Technology. Students completing this certificate will acquire the ability to use tools and equipment necessary for use in modern farming operations. Students must complete 18 credits. Once you complete this pathway, you will be prepared for employment in the following fields: general agriculture, sales and service of agriculture equipment, equipment manufacturing, ag mechanics and welding.
The Associate of Science in Agriculture Technology prepares students for entry-level employment in the field of Agriculture Technology through the study of agriculture equipment maintenance and repair, basic equipment construction and fabrication, including layout, finish and welding of metal agriculture structures. In addition to the required courses in Agriculture Technology, students must also complete the general education requirements. Click here for more information on degree requirements. Goals and Certificates
Once students complete the program, they will earn one of three levels of certification or degree, depending on the courses successfully completed: a Skill Certificate in Agriculture Power Equipment Technician, a Certificate of Achievement in Agriculture Technology and an Associate of Science in Agriculture Technology.
Prerequisites and Required Assessments
There are no prerequisites for enrolling in the Agriculture Technology programs. Even though a High School Diploma or High School Equivalency Certificate is not required, it is preferred. Some employers prefer to hire employees with a High School Diploma or Equivalency Certificate. There are also more options for financial aid at COS for students who have a High School Diploma or Equivalency Certificate.
Students must take a placement test to enroll in math and English classes for the general education requirements. Students should meet with a counselor to determine the correct placement in these classes.
