Description

COS offers both a Certificate of Achievement in Animal Science and an Associate of Science in Animal Science.

The Certificate of Achievement in Animal Science prepares students for entry-level employment in the field of Animal Science. Students completing this certificate will acquire skills in animal restraint, veterinary terminology, basic animal health, care and nutrition, and livestock reproduction. Once you complete this pathway, you will be prepared for employment in the following fields: livestock operator, animal health technician, meat inspector and/or grader, or sales and service support staff.

The Associate of Science in Animal Science prepares students for entry-level employment and/or further study in the field of Animal Science. Students completing this degree will acquire skills and knowledge in basic animal science practices such as animal restraint; veterinary terminology; basic animal health, care, nutrition and livestock reproduction. In addition to completing the required courses in plant science, students must also complete the general education requirements. Click here for more information on required courses. Goals and Certificates

Once students complete the program, they will earn either a Certificate of Achievement in Animal Science or an Associate of Science in Animal Science.

Prerequisites and Required Assessments

There are no prerequisites for enrolling in the Animal Science programs. Even though a High School Diploma or High School Equivalency Certificate is not required, it is preferred. Some employers prefer to hire employees with a High School Diploma or Equivalency Certificate. There are also more options for financial aid at COS for students who have a High School Diploma or Equivalency Certificate.

Students must take a placement test to enroll in math and English classes for the general education requirements. Students should meet with a counselor to determine the correct placement in these classes.
