Description
The career of a medical biller and coder, also known as a health insurance specialist, is a challenging one with opportunities for professional advancement. Individuals who understand claims processing and billing regulations, possess accurate coding skills, can successfully appeal underpaid or denied insurance claims, and demonstrate workplace professionalism are in demand.
Students in the Medical Insurance Billing and Coding-Physician program will study and practice the principles of the Current Procedure Terminology, the Healthcare Procedure Coding System, and International Classification of Diseases, 10th Revision. The student will also study the principles and practice of insurance and reimbursement processing, including the assignment of reporting of codes for diagnosis and procedure/services for the physician. In addition, the student will also use Medical Office Simulation Software to demonstrate the fundamentals and practice of physician billing.

Goals and Certificates
Student will earn a Certificate of Completion for Medical Insurance Coding and Billing.
Prerequisites and Required Assessments
Students must have a High School Diploma or High School Equivalency and must complete the CASAS (Comprehensive Adult Student Assessment Systems) reading assessment with a minimum score of 248 and pass a basic math test with 70% or better.
