Description

Students completing a certificate in welding are prepared for entry-level employment in the field(s) of welding and fabrication, both locally and internationally. Students completing this certificate will acquire entry level skills in shielded metal arc, gas metal arc, gas tungsten metal arc, oxyfuel welding, oxyfuel cutting skills. Students will know basic metallurgy, blueprint design and reading, as well as the scientific principles of welding.

Once you complete this pathway, you will be prepared for entry-level employment in the following fields: metal fabrication, oil field welding, pipeline welding, agriculture fabrication and metal agriculture implement repair, stainless steel fabrication, and welding maintenance in food processing facilities.

COS also offers an Associate of Science in Welding. This degree prepares students for entry-level employment in the field of Welding through the study of fabrication, metal transfer and the use of different shielding gases. Students will acquire skills in metallurgy, blueprint design and creation, multi-position metal transfer, well-joint design and application, and basic material science. In addition to completing the required courses, students must also complete the general education requirements. Click here for more information on degree requirements. Prerequisites and Required Assessments

There are no prerequisites for enrolling in Manufacturing programs at COS or Tulare Adult School. Even though a High School Diploma or High School Equivalency Certificate is not required, it is preferred. Some employers prefer to hire employees with a High School Diploma or Equivalency Certificate. There are also more options for financial aid at COS for students who have a High School Diploma or Equivalency Certificate.

Students must take a placement test to enroll in math and English classes for the general education requirements. Students should meet with a counselor to determine the correct placement in these classes.
